Palmate or Matsumurae
Palmate leaves are the standard leaf type for most Japanese maples generally having 5 or more lobes arranged to look like a hand.
LANDSCAPE USES
Since many of these varieties have fairly wide leaves, they are a popular choice for intermediate-sized shade trees and landscaping medium-sized yards and gardens. Slower-growing varieties with smaller leaves are popular choices for bonsai. Their natural look and small scale makes them ideal for this use. Maples with a palmate leaf have a natural look while also providing a Japanese aesthetic, making them useful for Japanese garden design.
Whatever application you have in mind, if you are looking for a unique maple with beautiful leaves, there is sure to be a maple with palmate leaves that fits your needs.
